25 Days of High Adventure Camping in the Northern Manitoba Wild - E.6 - Canoe Catamaran in Whitecaps in the Wild North: A long day of paddling with kayak paddles on Big Sand Lake brought us to a nice canoe camping site where I catch and release a Northern Pike I didn’t even know I had on. A dehydrated meal is pulled out of the dry bag for over the fire cooking after Ted Baird uses a folding saw to cut firewood. Loons call loudly the next morning as we break camp and I call my wife using a sat. phone device. We soon find ourselves in whitecap danger as we’re crossing the large lake, the wind is strong and it’s a little scary. Making it to a rocky point, we haul out canoes up onto the shore and bushcrafter rig a canoe-catamaran using spruce poles. We’re then able to manage the large waves. Paddling hard snd blowing with the wind, we’re able to put another 15kms behind us before day’s end but then Ted hooks into a huge Lake Trout right before reaching camp. Does he land it?
