Chemplavil’s 4 steps process in Decision-making

There are 4 steps in our decision making process.

Step-1
This data collection, first step, has 3 parts or 3 levels.
Level-1
You LOOK: You come across any kind of random impulse, stimulus, experience, auditory or visual exposure, through any of our senses as the case or situation may be.
Level-2
You SEE: That means You pay attention to what you have been exposed to from level 1.
Level-3
You OBSERVE: Here you digest what you have seen or been exposed to or in other words you pay careful attention to the details of it rather than just casual attention.

Step-2
ANALYSIS: Now you critically asses and do an analysis of the details of what you have observed. This is the sorting out of the database and it’s careful analysis, whatever the case may be.

Step-3
CRITIQUE: Next you figure out the pros and cons of all aspects of what you are dealing with from your detailed analysis of whatever the problem, situation or challenge may be. Your customized and common sense decision is critical for the success of your action you are entertaining to take.

Step-4
This is the final stage of your decision making or problem solving. It has 3 options.
Option-1
ABANDON: You reject or disagree with the idea, plan or action after your thorough analysis and critique in step 2 and 3.
Option-2
ADJUST: Without outright abandoning you chose to make some modifications or adjustments to suit your personal needs and circumstances and proceed with the idea, decision or action.
Option-3
ACCEPT: Once you are convinced after this meticulous intellectual process as explained, you decide not to abandon or modify but to accept the outcome from the analysis and criticism of the subject matter.

This is the summary of the 4 step decision making process:
Step-1 is Data collection. It has 3 Levels: LOOK, SEE and OBSERVATION.
Step-2 is ANALYSIS
Step-3 is CRITIQUE
Step-4 is Decision making. It has 3 Options: ABANDON, ADJUST or ACCEPT.

Let us elaborate some of the common examples where the decision making is of crucial importance all throughout our life.

Finding a girlfriend or boyfriend, getting married or not, going for higher education or to which institution or in which subject, choosing a profession and taking a job, having children or not, going on a vacation, buying a car or a house, taking a loan or not, saving money and investing it, planning for retirement, giving a donation and the list goes on and on!

This systematic mental process of decision making goes a long way to help anybody, not regretting on any or all decisions we make and actions we perform in our life.

Decision making involves a wide spectrum of human activities from as simple as going for grocery shopping to as grave as going to war.

We have the history of so called great people and even world leaders skipping, ignoring, eliminating or abandoning the step 2 of analysis and or step 3 of critiquing and reaching step 4 straight from step 1, in a casual or cursory manner, resulting in catastrophic or existential consequences!

So let us all learn and make a habit of doing this systematic thinking process in our decision making, from the trivial to the most serious actions we undertake, from childhood through all our everyday adult life.
