Meet Choreographers Krystal Meraz & Christopher "Pharside" Jennings of AOV and House of Mayhem in San Mateo, CA
Krystal Meraz devotes her time to learning and excelling in the art of dance. She was first introduced to the expressive form of Ballet at the age of six. With ten years of training under her belt, she auditioned and was accepted to the School of the Arts in San Francisco in which she graduated with the Class of 2003. As a student in this artistic disciplinary school, she was introduced to other styles of dance such as Modern, Afro-Haitian, and Lyrical. Upon graduating she ventured out of the traditional and sought to train in as many styles as possible, of which include International Latin, Salsa, and the one that kept her hooked: Hip Hop. Since the age of eighteen, she has been an active member of companies such as, Xplicit ('02-'03), Culture Shock Oakland ('04-'05), Khamai (2005), Funkanometry SF ('05-'08), and The Lost Kids ('08-Present). Currently, she directs Mighty Minions youth competition team and Academy of Villains with Christopher "Pharside" Jennings. In 2008, she was chosen for the female role in Disney's High School Musical 3 the video game. Her main goal is to make an impact in the dance community and set a new bar for up and coming dancers as well as choreographers.
Founder of House of Mayhem Dance Studio in San Mateo, Christopher "Pharside" Jennings, is not only a well-known freestlyer but also a Hip Hop choreographer. In less than nine years, he has managed to win over 40 different freestyle competitions, excelled in various styles of Hip Hop dance, appeared on America's Best Dance Crew, and opened up his own dance studio that is located in San Mateo. Aside from these major accomplishments, he has also represented for the U.S. in a prestigious competition called International Breakdance Event (IBE) in which he made top two. Pharside is considered one of the top freestylers in the U.S., and has danced and opened up for artists such as E-40, Lil Mama, and Sean Paul. In 2007, he earned the title as a Red Bull Beat Rider and was sponsored by Red Bull. In 2009, he formed the competition team, Academy of Villains in which he directs alongside Krystal Meraz. They have entered three competitions thus far, and have been fortunate enough to have placed at each. Currently, he is in the process of launching his new clothing line!
