I love the Fiddle Leaf Fig plant (Ficus Lyrata) and currently have five - not including propagations. I have had fiddle leaf plants in my collection for the past four years and find them such a lovely plant that is definitely not fragile. I was put off buying one for a while as so many people said they are hard to maintain - so I am here to break that stereotype! Let's go through my winter care routine.
During the cooler months, when my plants are dormant, I like to clean their leaves, add a slow release fertiliser once only, move them towards the sunlight and add grow lamps, and catch up on a few other plant chores.

One of the biggest changes to my routine is switching from monthly liquid plant food to a seasonal slow-release fertilizer. Autumn was super warm this year, so I'm only just getting started with it now that winter's here. I'll show you exactly how to apply it, and you won't need to worry about feeding your plants again until spring!

Soil & Microbe Booster made with biochar and frass. This can be stirred through new potting mix when repotting, or sprinkled around the root ball to bring life to old mixes. Frass has a nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) ratio of 4:2:2 and it’s still full of those underrated trace nutrients to help your plants flourish: iron, copper, zinc and so much more.

Neem oil is a natural insecticide and fungicide that can help protect your plants from pests like spider mites, mealybugs, and scale, as well as some fungal issues.
Use a spray bottle to spritz the plant, including the undersides of the leaves. Gently wipe the leaves with a soft cloth. This removes any pests, residue, and cleans the leaves.
The neem oil I use is non-comodegenic so it doesn't clog pores, but they aren't all created equal. You can spray and walk away, but this is a leaf clean as well as a treatment.
Fiddle Leaf Figs are not made of glass. I have five in my collection right now and let me tell you they are a pretty hearty plant.
I am constantly putting mine outside in the rain and giving it a good shake off afterwards. When its not the rainy season they're going upstairs and into the tub or shower where I give them a good rinse off and soak.
I don't believe that they are a finicky plant and if you are losing leaves when just looking at yours there is something wrong. In my experience, if leaves are dropping off your plant it's either because you have overwatered them or they have a pest. The most likely culprits are thrips, spidermites or root rot.
I feed my plants once at the beginning of winter, then not again until spring. They are 'dormant' during the cooler months and don't need monthly feeds.
Aim for a total light period of 12-16 hours per day, with a minimum of 8 hours of darkness for plant "rest." This 12-16 hours can be a combination of natural sunlight and a grow lamp, adjust timing as needed.
