And Here I Am Flying is the fourth residency-to-exhibition by internationally-recognized poet and self-taught painter, Jamel Robinson. In the first of these residencies, Robinson transformed a location into his studio and prepared site-specific works informed by his surroundings in New York (2015). He followed this success with original, site-specific exhibitions in Los Angeles (2016) and most recently in Paris (2016). For his current residency with Ground Floor Productions & Gallery Von Schmordenfaden, Robinson once again seeks to let his surroundings inform a body of work, this time colored by a five-week stay in Copenhagen. The theme of the show, paired with the artist’s ability to fly into the unknown and place all his trust into the creative process, is the texture of the city: its people, language, landscape, architecture, various methods of transportation, colors and the daily experience of living on foreign land.
