Govt accepts Maratha quota demand: Manoj Jarange ends hunger strike | Ankit Agrawal Study IQ

On September 2, 2025, Maratha quota activist Manoj Jarange-Patil ended his five-day hunger strike at Azad Maidan, Mumbai, after the Maharashtra government conceded to his demands through a Government Resolution (GR). The GR allows Marathas—based on verified records from the Hyderabad Gazetteer (1909)—to obtain Kunbi caste certificates, making them eligible for OBC reservation benefits.

As per the resolution:
• Village-level committees will verify historical evidence (land records, affidavits, testimonies).
• Applicants without documents can submit affidavits or witness statements from relatives or villagers.
• The GR accepted 6 of Jarange’s 8 key demands, including the implementation of the Gazette, issuance process, and withdrawal of protest-related cases
