Located in the picturesque surroundings of Sauk County, Wisconsin, Reedsburg is a city that boasts a rich history and a vibrant community spirit. Founded in 1868 along the tranquil Baraboo River, the city was named in honor of early settler David C. Reed and has since grown to become a key part of the Baraboo Micropolitan Statistical Area.

The abundance of natural resources, particularly lumber, attracted early settlers to Reedsburg. The Babb family, one of the first to make the area their home, played a significant role in establishing the community. The establishment of the Reedsburg Brewing Company in 1880 and the opening of the Webb and Schweke department store in 1883 marked significant milestones in the city's commercial development.

The 1900s saw Reedsburg undergo numerous transformations, particularly in its industrial sectors. The Reedsburg Woolen Mill, a once dominant employer, adapted to changes in market demands, shifting its focus from clothing to novelty fabrics. Meanwhile, Hankscraft Company emerged as a key player in the baby product industry, eventually being acquired by Gerber Products Company.

Community spirit thrived during this century, with the establishment of Webb Park and Webb High School, thanks to a generous trust fund left by Herbert Webb. The Butter Festival, now known as Butterfest, became a beloved annual tradition, celebrating the city’s agricultural roots.

Entering the new millennium, Reedsburg continued to evolve and adapt. The city faced challenges, such as the Baraboo River flood in 2008, but also celebrated new beginnings, including the inception of the annual Fermentation Fest in 2011.
