William Barr Is Confirmed on Voice Vote As 77th Attorney General of U.S.

Senator Joseph R. Biden Jr., a Democrat of Delaware and the chairman of the Judiciary Committee that conducted hearings on Mr. Barr's nomination, predicted today that Mr. Barr would be "a fine Attorney General."

Mr. Barr earned his law degree in night school and has never held a professional job outside the Washington Beltway. He began his career at the Central Intelligence Agency in the 1970's as an analyst and legislative assistant.

In the early 1980's, he worked on the domestic policy staff at the White House under President Ronald Reagan and joined a private law firm. He has worked at the Justice Department since 1989.
