This underwater kite helps generate clean energy from the ocean!

It’s called Minesto, founded in Sweden, and it’s already helping power homes in the Faroe Islands.

Here’s how it works:

The kite flies in a figure eight pattern under the sea, using tidal streams and ocean currents.

As it moves through the water, it pulls turbines that spin and generate electricity.

That electricity is sent to the grid through a cable which also anchors the kite to the ocean floor.

And because water is around 800 times denser than air, it can generate way more power than wind turbines in much less space.

New projects are now launching in the UK and Taiwan, with upgraded designs that make the tech even more efficient.

Ocean currents are constant and reliable, which makes this kind of tech perfect for keeping energy flowing, in every corner of the world.
