The word ‘Aum’ is the primordial sound and is ever present. Sri M quotes from the Vedas, “I would not call it a Word, I will call it a Sound, the primordial, eternal Sound.” He also quotes from the Rig Veda – “Prajapati vai idam agre asit tasya vak dvitiya asit vak vai param brahma.
From the Bible, he quotes St. John’s – “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God”.
In the beginning was the creation of the universe, energy that creates, and it rested in the Word, the sound and that Word was not different from the Brahman.”
The chanting of OM or AUM has a calming effect on the mind and can help in meditation.
