Pachmarhi is widely known as Satpura ki Rani ("Queen of Satpura"), situated at a height of 1067 m in a valley of the Satpura Range in Narmadapuram district. Dhupgarh, the highest point (1,352 m) in Madhya Pradesh and the Satpura range, is located here. It is a part of Satpura Biosphere Reserve.

It was discovered by Captain James Forsyth in 1857 and is amongst the most popular hill stations in central India. It is beleived that the five Pandava brothers stayed in five caves during their exile here, thus the name Pach (five), Marhi (caves).

How to Reach:

By Air

The nearest airport is the Bhopal or Jabalpur airport which is about 195 km away from Pachmarhi hill station. Many cities have direct flights to Bhopal and Jabalpur. Post your landing you can take a taxi or local bus transport services which run on a regular basis.

By Train

The nearest railway station to Pachmarhi is Pipariya Railway Station. Many major Indian cities are directly connected to Pipariya which makes it easy for many tourists to travel here. If there is no train for Piparia available then you can also board a train till Itarsi railway station.


By Road

By Bus: Bus services to reach Pachmarhi by bus are available. Mostly direct buses for Pachmarhi are available for places like Bhopal (195 km), Itarsi (52.3 km), and Chhindwara (135 km). You can arrive in these cities and take a bus to Pachmarhi.

By Road: You can opt for traveling in a taxi or self-drive to reach Pachmarhi by Road depending upon the total distance you will have to cover. This area has good roadways until the beginning of the hill station. Post that the area is slightly rocky and you might have to be very careful up there. It is advised to take a local taxi after a point as their experience with the place will help you get through safely.
