This is the first part (PART1) of a series of vidoes outlining the gameplay of the game 'Dwarf Fortress' a medieval fantasy that has RTS, RPG, and simulation elements. Movies will encompass the first 5 minutes of play during the first of every OTHER season (2 vids per year) or important events there-in. (Combat, trade, etc)

The world is generated proceedurally; you get to watch as a map is given shape, erroded by water, grown with vegatation and animals, and even see civilizations spring into existence and grow... Though the details there-in need to be discovered by an adventurer, such as yourself.
Every map is unique, and is made more unique as you interact with it

... Obviously, i dont find adventuring very attractive ... So i've started a 'Fortress Mode' game instead. Taking command of 7 initial dwarves (hmm, where have i heard of that before...) like some divine entity, i must guide them through their (often short) existence, giving them directions on how to build my fortress, and ultimately, become seriously f*ing wealthy ... Keeping said wealth safe from any interlopers who would dare to claim my fortress as their own, as well.

As a side note, this specific fortress will take on a challenge game; to start with 7 no-skill hack dwarves, with absolutely no starting equipment. No food, no mining picks, and certainly no knowledge... Except for my own.
