The 20th Annual World Championship of Punkin Chunkin took place in Millsboro, Delaware on November 4th, 5th & 6th.

Legend has it that Punkin Chunkin started when several friends challenged each other to design a machine that could propel a pumpkin through the air. They brought their inventions to a nearby farm and the first battle began. The contraptions were primitive and the crowd was small, but an enduring and unusual contest arose from a simple question: How far can a pumpkin fly?

The quest for the answer has become the basis for a full-blown spectator sport, shining an international spotlight on Sussex County, Delaware the first weekend of every November. This year, the championship drew 100 teams of chunkers, some coming from as far away as Great Britain, all vying for a trophy and dreaming of breaking the world record, which now stands at a distance of almost a mile!
