Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam, called upon Taiwan’s Ministry of Labor to raise monthly wages for foreign domestic workers from NT$15,840 to NT$17,500. After some negotiation the Labor Ministry eventually agreed to raise salaries to NT$17,008 which could go into effect by year end. For the past 18 years, foreign domestic workers in Taiwan have seen their monthly wages hover around NT$15,000. However, four years ago, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam began appealing to the Labor Ministry to raise these wages. It’s also considering special measures to reduce the burden of these higher wages on middle-income families.
