Stone Setting 101: Talon Claws | Jewellery Tutorials | GWS

In this video I go through the steps I take to so talon-shaped claws. We're working on a decorative four claw diamond solitaire ring that I have handmade in our workshop.

The client had a good idea of what they were looking for and these talon claws were specifically requested. They have a bit more direction and add a little detail to this classic style of ring.

Please excuse that some of the footage is a bit overexposed (this setting process was recorded a month or two ago) but hopefully you're able to see what I'm talking about when I explain the steps and, as usual, take something away that you can use on your bench, in your manufacturing process.

Setting can feel intimidating and it makes sense because, of course, there is a lot at stake but it's incredibly rewarding to be able to be fully involved in each stage of the creation of a piece and a very useful skill to have. So, I always encourage those who have not tried it to explore it.
