BOB DYLAN won the Nobel Prize in Literature this year.
Not being a novelist or a poet in the conventional sense, he was quite a controversial choice, but the Swedish Academy felt he deserved the prize ‘for having created new poetic expressions within the great American song tradition’.
The medley was arranged by Dr Antoni Schonken and Arthur Feder, both part-time lecturers in our Department of Music; both previous winners of the SAMRO Composition competition and both composers of musical scores for the film industry in South Africa. The medley was performed by the Stellenbosch Symphonic Wind Ensemble conducted by Pamela Kierman, with vocalist Wendy-Joy Crowley.
