Once you're used to holding the sticks and are comfortable with the feel of the sticks on the drum, let's get going with the most fundamental thing to learn on caixa: hand-to-hand playing. This is where you play one note in each hand, alternating smoothly and quickly, with no doubles.

The most important thing to get used to is to keep the right hand (or left hand if you're left-handed) planted bang on the beat. Then the other 3 little notes per beat will follow.
