On 17th September 2025, I embarked on a serene boat ride aboard the Vega-2 from Alappuzha’s Matha Boat Jetty at precisely 11 a.m. The Vega-2, inaugurated on 10th March 2020, promises a luxurious and comfortable journey through the densest, ocean-like backwaters of Vembanad Lake. The route elegantly weaves through the scenic Punnamada backwaters, Muhamma, Pathiramanal Island, Kumarakom, and several key points including “R” Block, Marthandam, Chithira, “C” Block and Kuppapuram before returning to Alappuzha. With 40 seats in the Air-conditioned cabin and 80 in the non-A/C section, the vessel is designed to offer a relaxed and enjoyable experience to both leisure travelers and nature enthusiasts alike.

During this approximately four-hour voyage, passengers are treated to mesmerizing views of Vembanad’s expansive waters, lush greenery along the banks and the unique charm of Kerala’s backwater life. The journey includes a 30-minutes break at Pathiramanal Island, allowing passengers to stretch and soak in the tranquility of the surroundings. Additionally, light refreshments and Lunch coordinated by the Kudumbashree Mission are served on board, enhancing the comfort and hospitality of the experience. Overall, the Vega-2 offers a perfect blend of scenic beauty, relaxation and cultural connection, making it an unforgettable way to explore Alappuzha’s iconic backwaters.
