Sigurtà Garden Park, owned by the Sigurtà family, is an oasis of nature on a hill just a few kilometres from Lake Garda and the cities of Mantua and Verona. Prizewinner as Italy’s most beautiful Park in 2013, thanks to its extensive size of 600,000 square meters and its annual flowerings that follow on season upon season, the Park has charmed millions of visitors over the forty years since it opened to the public.

Woods that are home to centuries-old trees like the Great Oak, lawns that stretch into the distance, points of interest that catch the eye and move the soul: these and much more besides make up the treasury that the park has cared for for many centuries, with the original garden dating back to 1407.

Park in one of the most world’s greatest flower displays; 40,000 woodland plants, 18 ornamental lakes, the famous Avenue of the Roses with its 30,000 flowering roses, an image that has always symbolised the Park, and the Maze created from 1500 yew trees. And there is more, with 50 varieties of annual plants that bring still more colour to the summer, and with the onset of autumn there is the Flowerbed Avenue, the hundreds of water lilies that take a leading role in the summer months, the Hermitage built in 1792 in the neo-Gothic style, and the Castelletto, housing historic memories of meetings of leading scientist and Nobel Prize winners.

THE WATER LILIES
The Water Lilies, diurnal, nocturnal and tropical, flower during the summer months in the 18 ornamental lakes and ponds in the Park. Their petals range from pale to bright pink and from red to cyclamen, as well as white and yellow.
The special tropical daytime water lily (so-called as it opens during the daytime) really should not be missed. The purple and white petals of the plant can be seen in an ancient vase next to the Water Gardens, while the flower itself bears the name of a Japanese poetess of the imperial court of a thousand years ago, Murasaki Shikibu.
Equally special are the mini water lilies which can be found in the Four Little Lakes at the foot of the Hermitage. Not far away in the ornamental pond at the Dog Cemetery visitors can enjoy the white water lilies, whose hue was chosen as a sign of respect for the faithful friends who belonged to the Sigurtà family.

THE ROSES
Among the most celebrated of the flower displays in the Sigurtà Garden is that of the Roses, which flower from the month of May flower along the Avenue named after them and leads across the hill against the backdrop of the impressive Scala family castle of Valeggio sul Mincio. The two varieties here are Queen Elizabeth and the Hybrid Polyanthus and Floribunda that flower over and over again from May to September.
Red and perfumed roses can also be admired near to the Lovers' Bench, while diverse varieties can be found near the Valley of the Deer. Here there are creeping roses that include dog roses and the small English white roses.
In the Valley of the Deer there is the climbing Cocktail rose that also adorns some of the signature features of the Park, with the peculiarity of the rose being its changes in colour.

TULIPS

Certainly the most eagerly awaited of the early spring flowerings, to the extent that it has gained the status of a real event in its own right, bearing the name "TULIP MANIA". From the last decade in March a million tulips representing over 300 varieties embellish the lawns of the Park, providing a month of spectacular and quite unforgettable colour.


THE ZINNIAS
The Zinnia is one of the annuals we enjoy seeing adding colour to our Park. Originating from Mexico and Central America they are in flower from summer to autumn with enduring blooms that are similar to daisies with simple or double corolla in tones that range through yellow to red, from purple to orange and lilac to green.
