The Chattanooga Transportation Department says Boy Scout Road from Highway 153 to the Chattanooga city limits at the Norfolk Southern railroad crossing will be closed to through traffic for about two weeks.

Those repairs come after hundreds of calls and complaints.

"I just hope that they fix this road as soon as possible," said Malcolm Grigsby, driver.

The part of the road being fixed is part of a road rebuilding pilot program in Chattanooga. This project costs more than $200,000.

Potholes are just one of the reasons the road needs repair, but the city's transportation director says slopes, dips and other ground base issues will also be considered.

For drivers - like Grigsby - that's not enough.

"I would definitely say put lights in because when you come down this road late at night, and people have their brights on, you got to turn them off, and you can barely see down the road," he added,

Grooves have already been added to slow drivers down, but without some bigger, structural changes, drivers doubt they will see any real difference.

"I would like to see them raise it starting at the railroad tracks because it's always under water every time it rains and under water," said Jim Nabors, driver.

We didn't find any workers when we were out there because of weather issues, we're told, crews were focusing on minor repairs - like manhole issues. In the minds of drivers though, one thing remains certain.

"It's like a roller coaster pretty much because the roads are so bad, and the potholes, and I don't like driving down Boy Scout Road," said Grigsby.

The city got the money for this project from a transportation budget.
