Samurai Shodown (known as Samurai Spirits in Japan) is a 2019 fighting game developed and published by SNK for arcades, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, Stadia, and Windows as an entry in the Samurai Shodown series.

Samurai Shodown takes place between the events of the 1993 game and Samurai Shodown V and has been cited as a reboot of the series.
The game takes place in 1787, during the Tenmei Era of Japanese history. The entire country is beset by a terrible and looming evil. Fire, ruin and famine ran rampant throughout Japan. Meanwhile, as these events unfold, a sinister cloud envelops the air with a foreboding sense of dread. Shizuka Gozen, the deceased spirit of a young woman who is possessed and trapped in Yomi, (labeled Eternity in the game itself) threatens to destroy Japan. Warriors from all across Japan and beyond the ocean, driven by their own needs and desires, converge to investigate these evil forces and vanquish them.

Đúng như dự kiến, phiên bản làm lại của Samurai Shodown đã chính thức ra mắt vào ngày 25/6 vừa qua. Theo đánh giá trên Metacritic, Samurai Shodown đạt điểm trung bình 82/100. Đây là thành tích cực kỳ đánh khen ngợi với một tựa game đối kháng làm lại.

Thay đổi từ hình ảnh 8-bits cổ xưa sang nền độ họa tân tiến, Samurai Shodown 2019 trở nên lung linh tuyệt đẹp với tạo hình 3D cực chất. Tuy đồ họa thay đổi nhưng giá trị cốt lõi của Samurai Shodown vẫn không hề thay đổi. Game sẽ duy trì phong cách chiến đầu màn hình ngang như cách đây 26 năm.

Bên cạnh những cái tên kinh điển như Haohmaru, Jubei Yagyu, Nakoruru, Earthquake, Galford, Ukyo, Genjuro hay Tamtam và Hanzo, nhà phát triển SNK hứa hẹn sẽ mang đến nhiều nhân vật mới, khiến game trở nên đa dạng và hấp dẫn hơn.
