Dr. Todd Schadd introduces the three types of urinary incontinence in women and men. Incontinence is the uncontrolled loss of urine at inappropriate times.

The first, and most common type of incontinence is stress incontinence. This type occurs during physical activity such as lifting, laughing, coughing and exercising.

The second type of incontinence is called urge incontinence. This occurs when you have a strong urge to release the urine, but then involuntarily release the urine, such as when you are running to the bathroom.

The third type of incontinence is overflow incontinence. This type occurs because of an overly full bladder, often without any urge to urinate. This type can occur due to nerve injury, such as after an auto accident.

Becki Braund, a physical therapist who works with those with incontinence describes the problems that can occur when the muscles of the pelvic floor are weak and dysfunctional.
