1. Hydrate the plant, give it a good soak the day before.
2. Choose the right day to move the plant, not too hot and sunny, preferably damp and cool.
3. Prepare the hole before lifting the shrub.
4. Add a little compost and give a good soak.
5. Dig around the root ball using a long handled Irish Spade, don't worry about root damage, a little will stimulate new growth but bring as much as you can to help the plant re-establish itself.
6. Replant the shrub into it's home as soon as possible, ensure it is vertical by checking from a distance, back fill with soil and firm in, constantly checking it is upright.
7. Create a doughnut shaped indentation in the soil around the plant, this will help the water drain down into the root.
8. Top dress with a little compost.
9. Prune it a little to redress the balance between roots and foliage, this will help it recover. Remove trimmings from site.
10. Keep well watered for up to 18 months until the shrub is established in its new home.
