Abstraction is a deviation from reality. It uses symbolism in the form of shapes, colors, forms and gestural marks to achieve the illusion of reality. The goal is to represent a new perspective – one that is the view of the artist and the way they see a particular subject. Abstract art cannot be explained in words because the idea behind specific symbols speaks about the artist and the viewer, personally. In this sense, it is an experience that you have to undergo that is far from the realms of reality.
When thinking about the approach to this concept, we came to the realization that:
Abstraction is the language of human experience.

Through this collaboration with dance, design and production, and visual art, students are reexamining the elements & principles of art through the lens of emotional expression.
