The City of Madison hosted several public meetings regarding the topic of a possible governance transition. Madison and Limestone County Probate Judges have approved signatures on the petition to hold a special election on changing Madison's form of government. In a recent City Council meeting, Mayor Finley addressed citizens on the latest information to date.

The approved petition means that City of Madison will hold a special election, put to vote by the people to choose if changing the form of government is the right avenue for managing our local municipality for years to come. A date will soon be set for the special election to be held in early May of 2023. If the vote is in favor of transitioning to a Council-Manager form of government, the City of Madison would be divided into six districts (currently, Madison operates with 7 districts) and a voting Mayoral seat. As it stands, the acting Mayor does not vote in regards to Council resolutions and ordinances.
