A major real estate group warns a pandemic-like bottleneck in construction is looming. Stockland chief executive, Tarun Gupta, says if more skilled workers aren't brought into the sector through training and skilled migration, house prices could spike in the next 12-24 months "beyond what we want them to." Mr Gupta says that with interest rates cuts spurring demand in the market and construction costs going up once more, "demand will exceed supply and house prices will come under pressure."
It comes as the real estate developer delivered a bumper full-year profit and an outlook for even faster growth.
Stockland's share price surged by more than 8 per cent to the highest it's been in more than 17 years.
