We are both avid longboarders here in Madison.

Unfortunately, when we come home we had nowhere to put our boards by the door that would keep them off the floor. We needed something compact and we have 5 roommates who longboard so we needed it to have a large capacity for boards.

No skate shop or online retailer sells longboard racks to consumers.

So, we came up with the Longboard Rack.

We made it out of an old pipe and plumbob case from the UW SWAP. Our prototype can hold up to five longboards at one time. The plumbob case is now a useful holder for our skate tool. An essential for any longboarder. Now we have all of our longboarding gear in one convenient location. We added some lights to make it an attractive accent to our living room atmosphere.

We wondered if our longboard rack would be a viable product to build a business around.

On our trip to the Grainger Business Library we learned:

13% of Adults 18-24 with a family skateboard
In 2004 nearly 11 million Americans skateboarded
Skateboard industry has annual worldwide revenue of $5.7 Billion which is more revenue than snowboard and surfing combined

We believe that with the expanding longboard-skateboard industry there would be a large market for our product. Especially so for college age students, who use their boards every day.
