Mini One & Cooper, R50 & R52, 1.4 & 1.6 Litre - Alternator Change, Full Removal & Fitment - Pt. 1

Hello everyone, welcome back to the channel!

Welcome to Part 1 of the removal and replacement of the alternator on the Mini Cooper. Part 2 will follow very shortly and will be linked as an end screen once finished, edited and uploaded!

In this video, I will be demonstrating how to remove and replace the alternator on the Mini One or Mini Cooper, this applies to the R50 and R52 models. This guide does not apply to R53 Cooper-S models as the removal of the alternator on that model is a very different affair altogether!

In addition to the alternator removal and fitment, you can also utilise this video to remove and refit the airbox, throttle body, inlet manifold and also the fuel rail and injectors as these item all require removal in order to gain access to the alternator and I demonstrate each of these steps during the video.

On this particular car, the car started perfectly fine, however lost power and any drive at all after around 10 minutes/10 miles. Essentially, as the battery was not being charged by the alternator, all power for the car and the engine, including the spark plugs, fuel pumps, ECU etc. were quickly draining the battery until it reached the minimum capacity at which it could run any of these devices and simply stalled and then refused to start again, with only a light click being heard from the starter solenoid.
