1.6 Ecoboost - Boost Leak Fix and BPV Part Number - 2013 Escape - P0299

Описание к видео 1.6 Ecoboost - Boost Leak Fix and BPV Part Number - 2013 Escape - P0299

After repairing the high pressure fuel pump on this high mileage 2013 Ford Escape 1.6l Ecoboost, we noticed a slight "shudder" effect when under heavy load/full throttle. Subsequent datalogging showed what appeared to be a boost leak. While we didn't have a check engine light, we could see in the data it was there. If it was worse, it would have triggered a P0299 or Underboost Condition code.

I suspected as a result of the datalog that the Boost Bypass Valve, or BPV, was faulty. However, upon looking for the part for this 1.6l engine Escape, Ford Parts houses only showed it as a part of the ENTIRE turbo assembly - a $700 part. Well, the rest of the turbo was fine...

Now I could find on 2.0l Escapes, the BPV was sold separately, for $60-$70. But the same part number showed as not-compatible with this 1.6l Escape. But it LOOKED the same!

So we got the Escape up in the air, pulled the original BPV off the 1.6l turbo assembly, and started Googling part numbers. We found the part was made by Peirburg in Germany, and the Peirburg part number matched a very close Ford Part Number.

By dissecting that part number, I concluded that this must be the same part. We ordered it, swore to the parts house we wouldn't complain if it didn't fit (they warned us!), and crossed our fingers.

In the end, while Ford will state this part isn't compatible, we believe CJ5Z-9U465-A is a good match, and seems to be working flawlessly on this vehicle. Of course, the manufacturer may not agree, but we show how their own part number system can give us the assurance we were comfortable with the move ahead anyway.

We'll walk through this on this video.

Bear in mind I'm using a part that Ford says doesn't fit this application. It's high mileage, with no warranty, and I chose to take that risk. All I present here is the data I used to decide the risk was acceptable to me (and I believe it to be the same part from that...but Ford won't say it directly)

Foxwell OBD2 Scantool - NT630 Plus (I have an NT630, older version. This may not be the best OBD2 scantool for you, but it's the one I currently use. It offers basic features, datalogging, and a few other perks such as some ABS and SRS services. I have NOT compared it to others, but mine has done ok for me.)
