"Street Angels" (1937) was released in July 1937 - the same month that full-scale war broke out between China and Japan. The plot of the film also features a young woman, a singer, who is a refugee from an earlier invasion. How can we understand "Street Angels" in relation to the history of war, or the influence of Hollywood musicals?
