DIY: BMW E39 Front Bumper Moulding Removal

Описание к видео DIY: BMW E39 Front Bumper Moulding Removal

Video tutorial on how to remove the moulding located on the front bumper of a BMW E39. This does apply to all versions of this particular trim as it comes in this style that is non painted plastic with a chrome edge on the top side, just standard black plastic trim, body color matched trim, and finally similar to this style but with the chrome edge located on the bottom. This procedure may vary slightly between vehicles equipped without a front plate or on a European style license plate. This particular tutorial was done on a 1997 BMW 540i sedan.

Tools/Supplies Needed:
-nylon trim tool
-standard/flat screwdriver

Procedure:
-normally it is a good practice to rinse your vehicle off to ensure there is final dirt in the areas we are working with as we don’t want to risk the chance of scratching the paint
-use a nylon trim tool as it does make the removal process much easier
-this trim comes in three pieces and in order to remove it, we must start first with the side portions
-using a nylon trim tool, start with the edge and unclip it from it’s location
-once you have the edge started, you can continue with your hands and there will be various clips located along this piece
-when you’ve reached the ends towards the fender openings, they must be slightly slide out of their locations
-moving onto the license plate portion, there are two plastic pins which need to be removed first
-these pins expand clips into the bumper face
-using a small standard screwdriver, work your way around the end and slowly work them out of their locations
-they can be hard to remove, so take your time and take extra care as we can damage the plastic
-once the pins are removed, we can then unclip the two tabs behind the license plate bracket that go into the bumper grill opening
-just pull them down and then pull forward
-use your nylon trim tool to pop between the bumper and the trim, then slowly unclip it, this will have the same clips as the side trim
-reinstallation in reverse of removal
