STORY:

On South Island, there is an enormous lake called NeverLake. One month out of the year, the Little Planet appears over the NeverLake. It is said that time moves freely on the planet, all because of the seven Time Stones that can freely control time.
Not long after Little Planet makes it appearance, Dr. Robotnik takes notice of the Time Stones. going to the Little Planet, Robotnik immediately begins turning it into his fortress, littering the planet with his robots. Powered not by animals but by the essence of flowers, he sets his army to tear the planet apart so he can claim the Time Stones. To make sure that the planet does not leave, the doctor chains it to a nearby mountain, before covering it in a metallic shell as he constructs his fortress, all while scouring the planet for the Time Stones. Meanwhile, the doctor uses the unique temporal passages on Little Planet to invade the past of the planet, where he fills it with robot transporters in order to turn its future into one where he has total control. This affects Little Planet's fate severely, to the point where it becomes a ruined land in Robotnik's future.
Sonic, who has stopped Robotnik before, was also intending on seeing the Miracle Planet, Eventually, Sonic races his way to get to NeverLake and see Little Planet. Learning of the news that Sonic was approaching, Robotnik smiled, the doctor's eyes light up and a fearless smile appears on his face excited to put his latest and greatest invention up against the hedgehog. Assured that he will be able to finally crush the hedgehog once and for all, he excitedly proclaims, with a blue flash of light that lurks behind him.
Arriving at NeverLake, To his surprise however, he finds Little Planet in a sad state. Sonic immediately could tell that something was amiss. The Little Planet, which should have been a example of natural beauty, was instead covered in a mechanical wasteland. Seeing that the small planet was tethered to the Earth's surface, Sonic examined the mountainside the chain was connected to, recognizing the visage etched into its surface. With the image of Robotnik's face smiling at him, Sonic confirmed what he was already expecting. Jumping onto the chain, Sonic quickly darted up, speeding towards the surface of the Little Planet and preparing to face Robotnik once more. What might have been another simple fight against the genius scientist was immediately complicated by another layer that Sonic only discovered once he set foot in Palmtree Panic. Sonic learns that he needs to destroy the robot teleporters in the past and secure the Time Stones before his nemesis does. As he continued his adventure, Amy Rose, a pink female hedgehog and Sonic's biggest fan, had been doing what she often did, playing around with her tarot cards in an attempt to look into the future. The cards telling her that she had a destined encounter with Sonic at NeverLake, she traveled herself to the Little Planet, immediately becoming excited once she spotted the blue hedgehog, Amy instantly tries to hug him. None too pleased with Amy's appearance, Sonic tries to continue with his adventure.
After encountering Dr. Robotnik and forcing him to retreat by defeating his machine, Sonic continues onward to Collision Chaos, with Amy following him. Upon arriving there however, in the blink of an eye, Sonic sees the pink hedgehog getting kidnapped. He gets his first glimpse of the doctor's latest and greatest creation: Metal Sonic, a lethal robot built in Sonic's image. Created specifically to counter Sonic's every move. The robot snatches Amy, disappearing into the horizon. despite Sonic's attempts to save her. Now Sonic must not only stop Dr. Robotnik, grab the Time Stones, save the Little Planet and save Amy Rose from the clutches of his metallic doppelgänger. The blue hedgehog continues onward, defeating his nemesis and his contraptions along the way.
Eventually, Sonic arrives in Stardust Speedway. There, he finds Dr. Robotnik and Metal Sonic, challenging him to a race, In the end, the hedgehog defeats his copy, who gets smashed after he crashes into a gate closing in front of him, which forces the doctor to retreat. Afterward Sonic frees Amy.
Sonic travels to Metallic Madness. Inside the stronghold, he eventually encounters Dr. Robotnik using the Egg Spinner in an attempt to defeat him. However, the machine is destroyed, triggering a chain reaction that causes Little Planet's metallic shell to crumble and forces the hedgehog to escape from Little Planet with Amy. Landing near Neverlake, he leaves her in and runs away, before noticing the shell covering Little Planet break apart.
