Does Changing My Name Delay My Case?

USCIS does not have the authority to change names. If an immigrant wants to change their name, their case will have to be given to a federal judge and wait for a hearing.

In some cases, USCIS will do more background checks for the new name, leading to the case being delayed. Although this is rare, we have seen it happen.
