In 1979 the Artist and Director of Matt’s Gallery opened a gallery in his Studio on Martello Street. In 1993 he moved the gallery to its current east London location in Bow. Thirty five years later, in 2014, the gallery’s idiosyncratic director Robin Klassnik – alongside Jarosław Kozłowski – leads us through the story of the gallery’s history, naming and unique archive. The archive which ranges from research materials on exhibiting artists, installation art, performance art, painting, sculpture, photography, film and video, to showreels, photographs, printed ephemera, press cuttings, maquettes and correspondence to “…one end of a toilet paper roll…a plastic screwtop…and 75 rolled pieces of assorted paper.” Work on the archive continues…
