According to CHP Riverside PIO Javier Navarro, on August 30, 2025, at approximately 3:40 a.m., Riverside CHP units were dispatched to a six-vehicle collision on northbound I-15, just north of Limonite Avenue.

Investigators determined that the driver of a Chevrolet Cruze, traveling northbound, rear-ended a Mercedes SUV. The impact forced the Mercedes SUV into the center concrete median, where it came to rest. Moments later, a Jeep Wrangler traveling northbound struck the driver’s side of the Mercedes SUV, causing fatal injuries to the driver of the Mercedes.

Meanwhile, the Chevrolet Cruze veered across lanes and onto the right shoulder. A Chevrolet Silverado traveling behind applied heavy braking to avoid a collision, but a Nissan Altima following the Silverado was unable to stop in time and struck the rear of the pickup.

The driver of the Chevrolet Cruze fled the scene but was later located and arrested at 8:45 a.m. for Felony DUI, Felony Hit and Run, and Murder. The driver of the Jeep Wrangler was also arrested for Felony DUI.

The driver of the Mercedes SUV was pronounced deceased at the scene. One additional patient sustained moderate injuries and was transported by paramedics, while four others were evaluated and determined to be uninjured. A sixth vehicle was a bystander who stopped and was not directly involved.

According to the CHP Inland CAD log, one person was confirmed in custody at 7:48 a.m., and a blood technician arrived on scene at 9:43 a.m. As of 1 p.m., the fatality remained under active investigation.

Northbound I-15 was under a full closure for an extended period as CHP conducted their investigation and tow trucks cleared the involved vehicles.
