On October 1, 2024, extinction was undone. Two dire wolves were brought back to life by Colossal, and with them returned a sound the world had not heard in over 10,000 years: their howl.

So what did we do with it? We looped it over 10,000 times, mixed it with 10 hours of synth pop, and laid all of that under a bunch of dire wolf footage. Of course.

This 10-hour experience weaves together more than 10,000 recorded howls from these dire wolves with an AI-generated synth track, forming a layered soundscape. Accompanied by intimate—some never-before-seen—footage of Colossal’s dire wolf pups as they grow, this video offers a strange and compelling glimpse into the revival of a prehistoric species.

But this isn’t just a video. It’s the sound of de-extinction.
