Sony Handycam's new 'NightShot' | WTOL 11 Vault - Aug. 13, 1998

In 1998, Sony offered a brand-new feature to its popular line of Handycam consumer camcorders. Sony’s new “NightShot” used infrared night-vision technology to allow the home video cameras to record a much better picture in low light conditions.

The new technology made any video recorded in low-light conditions look much better, but the camera’s new technology had an unexpected drawback.
