EXTREMA RATIO is an Italian company specializing in manufacturing Military knives but also makes several models that cross over into civilian applications, such as: the Ontos (which by the way is GREEK and translates basically to "The Thing")

I spent over one month in the jungle and bush with the Ontos as EDC, YES EDC! To really get to know it and I've got to say I reckon it's great! Extrema Ratio's handle design is just fantastic and anyone who has held one in their hands will I'm sure confirm this. Very very comfortable and of course very very ergonomic when it comes to actual use. The Forprene handle was designed with university researchers whose expertise in is biomechanics.
Forprene made by the SOFTER company is a super tough polymer with the following properties: high abrasion resistance, resistance to chemical attack (alcohols; bases; acids; cleansers; alcohols; watery solutions; some polar solvents other than alcohols) and high UV resistance, all make for an excellent handle material. Forprene is also good to temperatures well below Zero (-50C) and up to 125C!

Extrema use a Forprene composite with a Shore hardness of 80-90.

Extrema Ratio are using BÖHLER N690 EXTRA as their choice of steel alloy which is a great stainless steel alloy for this application. The Ontos has great balance and feel, cuts like no tomorrow and is of practical design for heavy work.
