The humble honey bee with a brain the size of a sesame seed solves complex navigational challenges incredibly well - understanding the brain of a honey bee, being a simpler system to understand than a mammalian brain (let alone a human brain), will be of huge value in understanding the larger more complex systems. In this video, Associate Professor Andrew Barron discusses why: "This is a particularly exciting time to be involved in Neuroscience - I think that were seeing an explosion of possibility. There was a while when we were limited by the experimental techniques and that limited the amount of data that we could gather. We are now in a new situation that if anything we are more capable of generating data than we know what to do with. It means that questions of really broad scope can be addressed now - we are limited more by our capacity to imagine what we can do with the data than our capacity to generate the data - and that's what makes it particularly exciting."
