How To Find The Mirror Side Of A Mirror [Fingernail Test Guide]

First surface mirrors are usually shipped with protective laminate. What if you already have a mirror? Can’t remember which side is which? Follow these simple instructions to ease your mind!

How to tell which side of a front surface mirror or beamsplitter mirror is the mirror side.

If there is laminate, that side is always the mirror side.

No laminate? Try this simple trick!
Hold a pen up to the mirror.

If it touches its own reflection than that is the mirror side.

If you hold the pen up and there is a slight gap in between the reflection and itself than it is NOT the mirror side.
