The Politics of Regulating Low Wages - Hilary Term Seminar Series

Описание к видео The Politics of Regulating Low Wages - Hilary Term Seminar Series

This seminar was recorded as part of the Department of Social Policy and Intervention's Hilary Term Seminar Series 2024.

In this talk Professor Picot will present the findings from a five-year research project he just concluded. The project centered on the politics of statutory minimum wages, but accounted also for closely related policies, in particular regulation of collective bargaining and in-work benefits. Professor Picot will address the normative justification of minimum wages, the variation of low-wage policies across developed countries, and the politics and reasons behind that variation.

Georg Picot is Professor of Comparative Politics at the University of Bergen in Norway.
