A former farmer has grown some of the world’s largest vegetables – but can only just feed his family of 18.

Phillip Vowles, 67, has grown a world record cucumber, marrows and pumpkins over 100lbs, and currently has a cabbage over 30ft in diameter.

Yet all this veg is only just enough to feed his entire family when they come round for dinner.

The last time the family came together for a family harvest festival, they ate their way through the entire feast.

Phillip, from Llanharry, South Wales, said: “My granddaughter came out of the blue with the suggestion we have a harvest festival.

“Well we have the facility and the food so I said yes straight away.

“I love doing that sort if thing, and the children love it too. We had lots of music going, giant stuffed marrows, pumpkin, a nice leg of pork, all sorts really.
