For this latest video I’ve visited the Cotswold village of Bibury which has to be one of the most photographed villages in England!
The 19th Century artist and craftsman William Morris called Bibury ‘The Most Beautiful Village In England’ when he paid a visit.

Bibury is in the country of Gloucestershire and about 6 miles north east of Cirencester.

The village is probably most famous for Arlington Row, a much-photographed picturesque row of cottages originally built in 1380 as a monastic wool store which was converted into weaver’s cottages in the 17th century. The cloth produced by the weavers was sent to Arlington Mill also in the village for the process known as ‘fulling’ . The place where the wool was hung to dry after being washed was known as ‘Rack isle’ which runs adjacent to the river Coln which flows through Bibury.
So famous is the Arlington Row that at one time you could find an illustration of the scene in all British Passports, and it has also featured on British postage stamps.
As you might expect Bibury has been used in various tv and film productions including the 2007 film Stardust starring Claire Danes, Sienna Miller , Michelle Pfeiffer and Robert De Niro.

Bibury is particularly poplar with Japanese tourists mainly thanks to Emperor Hirohito after he stayed overnight here on his European tour.

Other points of interest in Bibury include the Church Of St. Mary which is late Saxon and Bibury Court built in 1633 in the Jacobean style.
Bibury is also home to the Britain’s oldest working trout farm in the centre of the village established in 1902 and the world’s first horse racing club ‘The Bibury Club’ which was formed in 1681 and held race meetings on Macaroni Downs above the village until the early 20th Century.
