In a significant development, the Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered the federal government to ensure that former Prime Minister Imran Khan undergoes an eye examination in the presence of specialist doctors before February 16.

A two-member bench headed by Chief Justice Yahya Afridi issued the directive during a hearing in the Toshakhana case. The court reviewed a report submitted by Salman Safdar, who was appointed as “Friend of the Court” to assess Imran Khan’s health and prison facilities at Adiala Jail.

According to the report, Imran Khan’s health — particularly his eye condition — requires urgent medical attention. The Attorney General informed the court that a team of eye specialists would soon visit Adiala Jail. The Supreme Court ordered that the medical team must conduct the examination before February 16. However, the court did not approve the request to allow a family member to be present during the examination.

What Is Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO)?

According to American Academy of Ophthalmology, Central Retinal Vein Occlusion (CRVO) occurs when the main vein carrying blood from the retina becomes blocked. This can lead to swelling, bleeding, and potential loss of central vision.

Diagnosis methods may include:

CT angiography

Fluorescein angiography (dye-based imaging)

OCT angiography (non-dye imaging)

Treatment typically focuses on stabilizing vision through anti-VEGF injections, steroid injections, or laser procedures such as Pan Retinal Photocoagulation (PRP). Early intervention significantly impacts recovery outcomes.

Separate Development: Bajwa Under Treatment

Meanwhile, the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) confirmed that former Army Chief Qamar Javed Bajwa is under treatment at CMH after sustaining injuries from a fall at his residence.

Reports indicate that he suffered multiple injuries and was briefly unconscious due to a head injury. According to ISPR, he is currently receiving medical care and is conscious.

General (R) Bajwa served as the 16th Chief of Army Staff from 2016 to 2022.
