HR operations is described as maintaining a good rhythm of the HR tasks with other HR professionals. It includes several things such as payroll administration, recruitment, employee relation management, benefits management, and more. The goal is to make sure that the “human resources”, the employees, are happy in their employment and they get to work at their best.

For large companies, HR operations or “HR Ops” are often in-house. In smaller ones, they are either in-house or outsourced. These operations are typically responsible for a variety of human resource tasks. With that, let’s look at seven common responsibilities of HR Ops.

The first is Payroll Administration. One of the critical HR operations is ensuring the employees are compensated well. This involves keeping records to support the right payroll decisions. HR also handles benefit plans, making sure it is accessed when employees need it.

The next responsibility is Benefits Administration. This is overseeing the company’s relevant benefit plans and policies. These may cover things like healthcare, dental coverage, retirement savings, disability and bereavement leave, and more. This responsibility also involves designing the right benefits packages for the company and managing how it is implemented.
