Backroadexploits travels from Southern Massachusetts to Northern Massachusetts to the Shelburne Falls Bridge of Flowers is a beautifully decorated trolley bridge was originally built to ferry freight across the Deerfield River as the nearby iron bridge was not strong enough. Of course times changed and more freight began delivery by truck, negating the need for the trolley. The trolley company went bankrupt in 1927. The bridge became an unsightly mess and a local woman proposed that a garden be planted on it as the bridge could not be torn down. The bridge carries a large water main between Buckland and Shelburne Falls.

Over the years the bridge has needed costly repairs and the community has raised the funds to keep it safe and to update the outdated main water line.

The bridge is open between April and October, 24 hours a day, weather permitting.
