STEELPAN 2nd ANNIVERSARY CELEBRATION IN TIMES SQUARE NEW YORK CITY

After the historic debut in Time Square last year 2023, when the United Nations declared August 11 as World Steelpan Day, it was time to celebrate the second anniversary, courtesy of the Consulate General of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago in New York City on 11th August 2024.

The steel pan steel is the national instrument of Trinidad and Tobago. It is the only acoustic
instrument invented in the 20th century. The steel pan owes its genesis to the carnival
festivals of that era. It emerged as the product of the energy of the people directed towards
cultural self-expression.

The Time Square Steelpan celebration was graced by the presence of Consul General of Trinidad & Tobago Hon. J. Andre Laveau and the Ambassador to the United Nations Hon. Dennis Francis.
