Let me tell you a story, actually 5 stories, of how event technology saved my event.

1. Event Registration
In 2002 I was working at my first event, I was the marketing guy, and we were trying to find a way to register attendees easily. I remember the struggle of phone calls, faxes, letters… I remember thinking "there must be a better way”. I found online registration and online payment, a gigantic leap for my event. All of the sudden it was easy to register attendees. That was the first time I used online registration and it changed the way I planned events forever.

2. Social Media
The second time event technology helped my event was a few years later when I moved to London and I started planning networking events. I just moved there - how could I create a network of people out of nothing? This was 2008 and this was the first time I used social media and online communities strategically to boost attendance rates at my events. We had 200 people turning up and it was a great success and I kept using social media forever.

3. Live Streaming
A few years later is the third time technology saved my event. I was planning this big conference, and one of our keynote speakers missed his flight. They couldn’t come, they couldn’t make it. We couldn’t replace them at such short notice but we were able to connect them online. Not the same thing of course, but at the end of the day, the event was saved by online video conferencing.

4. Networking
Technology saved my event for the fourth time a few years later. I was planning a meeting for the board members of a large company. One of the historic problems with this event was that board members struggled to connect with each other before the event. We used a mobile app with a strong LinkedIn integration, a social network that the attendees of the event would engage with daily. The attendees connected with each other before the event using the app, and satisfaction rates went through the roof.

5. Gamification
For another event, the coffee breaks, lunches and dinners were not connecting attendees as expected. We used a simple gamification module that came with our event mobile app. Adoption rates went through the roof and everybody was happy.

Here are five times technology saved my events. And these were just some of the multiple issues that technology can solve at your event.
