Muslim narrated in his Sahih that Abu Hurayrah reported that the Prophet (ﷺ) said,
“While a man was in one of the deserts of earth, he heard a sound in a cloud saying: Water the palm orchard of that man. Therefore, the cloud moved until it emptied its water in a land full of black stones so that a hole collected all the water. That man followed the water till he found farmer in his palm orchard circulating the water with his spade. He asked him, ‘Hey, worshipper of Allah, what is your name?’ The farmer gave him the exact name that he heard coming from the clouds. Then the a farmer asked, ‘O’ worshipper of Allah, why have you asked me about my name?’ The man replied, I heard a noise coming from the clouds that dropped this water saying: ‘Water the orchard of a man, and they mentioned your name. What is it that you do in your orchard?’ The farmer answered, ‘Since you have said that, then (I will tell you). I look at what comes out of orchard and give one third for charity, eat a third with my family, and replant the other third.’”
Ahmad bin Abdah ad-Dibbiy told us that Abu Dawud said ‘Abd Al-‘Aziz bin Abi Salamah narrated from Wahb bin Kaysān with the same documentation, but he said. “And I give a third to the poor, those who ask for help, and the needy ones who are away from their homeland.”
[This hadith was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih in “The Book of Morals and Manners”, in the chapter entitled: “Charity for Poor People”, 4\2288, hadith no 2984]

Lessons of the Hadith
1. Allah protects righteous people and takes care of them. He ordered the clouds to irrigate the orchard of that pious person who gave a third of what his earnings to charity.
2. Allah loves the worshipper who maintains balance in his life giving each one his right. The man in this story divided what he got from his orchard into three parts. No part was given more importance at the expense of the other parts.
3. The value of work. Allah immortalized the story of that man for his hard work, and the charity he paid. A righteous man is not the man who sequesters himself from life only for worship abandoning work, marriage, and having a family and children as some ignorant people think.
4. If Allah is Satisfied with a worshipper, He would render all that He wants on earth or heaven in the service of that worshipper. Allah ordered the clouds to water the orchard of that pious man.
