Welcome to the conclusion of "Raising the Roof on the Ambulance" series! In this fourth and final episode, we take you through the slow, meticulous and tedious process of installing the pre-cut and bent aluminum panels that will complete the roof raise.

Aluminum panels was designed to ensure watertight joints. For the top and bottom sections, we opted for overlap joints. The top of each piece tucks under the roof, while the bottom extends over the body shell, minimizing any potential for water leaks. For butt joints between sheets, the strategic placement of these joints at the middle of beams enhances structural integrity.

We installed a total of 10 pieces, including 4 for the rounded corners, 1 for the back, 1 for the front, and 2 for each side, summing up to 4 pieces. The installation process was consistent across all components: dry fitting, meticulous adjustments, gentle manipulation of the roof from the inside to facilitate sheet insertion, cleaning of beams and sheets with acetone, taping of beams using 3M double-sided tape, application of Sikaflex 221 at the top, bottom, and sides, followed by the insertion of the sheet and securing it with stainless steel pop rivets.

This took six days of dedicated work, including wait time for materials - the 2 front corners had to be redone at the metal shop as they were bended the wrong way.

We are very pleased with the final outcome! Having headroom in the Ambulander was well worth the time and effort. Thank you for watching this series!
